Objects of the association

The association safeguards and promotes the interests of its members in the import, manufacture, packaging and marketing of herbal and fruit infusions in all their presentation forms, at practical and political level.

 

Focus of activities

WKF is primarily concerned with questions arising from food law and food science, and nutritional aspects of herbal and fruit infusions. The following issues take priority:

  • Labelling requirements
  • Ingredients and compounds in herbal and fruit infusions
  • Flavourings and extracts
  • Residues and contaminants
  • Specifications for organically grown foodstuffs
  • Guidelines of the ‘Deutsches Lebensmittelbuch’ for tea, herbal infusions, extracts and preparations thereof
  • Food hygiene

Market data

Herbal and fruit infusions enjoy a high degree of popularity. In 2004 the consumption increased by 1.182 tons (+ 3,2%) to a total of 38.132 tons. So nation-wide approx. 12,7m additional cups of herbal and fruit infusions were consumed (calculated on basis of 3 g/cup).
