Objects of the association
| The task of the association is to safeguard and promote members' interests with regard to import, export, transit business and to an extent also manufacture, notably of chemical and pharmaceutical raw materials, food supplements, additives, essential oils and dried raw plant material (drugs) for pharmaceutical use and use in food. |
Focus of activities
| Reflecting the diversity of the products in question, activities involve a variety of central issues, i.e. REACH, regulations concerning hazardous substances, safety data sheets, regulations for transportation of hazardous substances, water hazard categories, regulations for pharmaceutics, pharmacopoeia provisions, future requirements for pharmaceutical active substances, Good Manufacturing Practice, food hygiene, regulations on additives, maximum residue limits, contaminants, foreign trade with elementary substances requiring supervision, regulations on export controls, Questions concerning Chemical Weapons Agreement. |
Special departments and committees
The association has special departments, inter alia for essential oils, chemicals and drugs. Particular importance is attached to the essential oils department whose members, leading importers and manufacturers, deal with problems arising from water hazard categories, MSDS, classification and labelling).
Special committees and working groups are set up to deal with practicalities, for instance the development of uniform safety data sheets, good manufacturing practice for drug processing companies, etc. and specific issues relating to pharmaceutical raw materials and active substances. |

Additional information
VDC is a member of BLL (Bund für Lebensmittelrecht und Lebensmittelkunde = Food Law Federation) and EHGA, a European association for producers of herbs used as drugs. VDC interacts with partner associations representing drugs and chemicals traders at national and European level.
The essential oils department represents VDC's interests in E.F.E.O., the European Organisation for Essential Oils.
The association has its own terms of trade and arbitration procedures. |
